Just some pictures

Here is a picture of my finished socks. So proud! Though I must say something about Sensational Knitted Socks. As a new sock knitter and a somewhat new knitter it was at times hard to understand. I would sit there trying to figure out what the directions were talking about. My mother has the same book and called me recently to ask what I did during a certain confusing point. So I feel less alone in this state of confusion! Just my two cents...

I also finished the blanket. Shown over two pictures, I just couldn't get a good picture of the entire thing. The plan is to use it folded like above when it is just me and the kid and unfold it when it all three of us. It's made from old t-shirts that needed to be retired. Most of them are Mr. Gnome's with a few of mine and few of Little Gnome's. It isn't exactly square but we don't have to talk about that. I used this groovy black with white and red and green polka dots on the back. Then just tie quilted.

Vacation of sorts....

Little Bug and I went to Virginia to visit the fam. We had a grand time! The little one became quite infatuated with Grandpa. She kept running after him saying, "The pa the pa". Very sweet, she hadn't done anything like that before. We hadn't seen my family in about nine months, so I doubt she really remembered them. My parents have three dogs, Little Bug decided that one of their crates was the Best place to hang out. Snowie, the dog whom this crate belongs to was a little confused.

We got to take a picture of the Four Generations of Faboulous Females.
Little Bug got to make Cupcakes with Grandma. Lemon and Blueberry Vegan cupcakes, from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, Yumm Yummm!! Then there was some gardening with Grandma. All in all we stayed nice and busy and had a grand time!

But it is nice to be back. We both missed Mr. Gnome, who

got a nice week all to himself..... He has this weekend off and we are hoping to get the children's bike seat onto the bike and go for a ride. Not to mention some yummy outdoor grilling Vegetarian style.

As far as the knitting goes well not much got done while I was away. I'm Almost done with the second sock. In fact I am going to finish it tonight while watching the final episode of Heroes. Dear hubby recorded it for me, Very excited!!! I need to wind another skein into a ball before I can continue work on Mr. Gnome's sweater, which only needs sleeves and collar.

Happy Mom's Day!

Today we went to Mokabe's . They have a Fabulous Sunday brunch. The only thing that is not vegetarian is their bacon. The stuffed French toast is just too good to describe! YUM YUM YUM!!!!!!
Then we went for a long walk around Tower Grover Park. Such a beautiful park and a rather cute kid if I do say so myself.
I went to see Spider Man 3 on Monday. It was the first time I've gone to a movie theater by myself. I really enjoyed the movie. Though coming back to my little bug was even more fun.

I finished my shopping bag! This is actually the second one I, made the strap a tad longer than the pattern recommends. By the pattern you can barely stuff things into the bad the strap is so short. But now the bag almost drags on the ground when full. Though this may be my lack of hieght more than anything. I hope to have around five when I am all through. The Pattern is a free pattern found here. OH and Note the correction! That hadn't been posted when I made my first one and well, one hundred stitches is a bit of a difference.... It doesn't seem to be nearly as wide as it looks in the picture. I used Peaches & Cream when making mine. I'd gotten a bunch of lb. cones of the stuff when I made dishclothes for the in-laws and extended for Christmas. I have quite a bit left over, as in more than half of what I had gotten. I think I'm going to try making it a bit wider and shorter next time.

I also finished my first sock! I love socks, always have been a collector of strange and different socks. I mostly started knitting to make myself socks! So here is the first one shortly before I finished. It is garter rib from Sensationl Knitted Socks. Though I wouldn't call it sensational. I am certainly not doing striped yarn for socks again. As Mr. Gnome pointed out, they "enhance" the sturdyness of my ankles. Though I love the fit, wow, who knew a sock could fit like that! I was a good girl and cast right on for the second sock.
We went to a playground playdate today entirely because a mom needed help with casting on. She is just starting to knit. This is the first time I've gotten to usher someone into the knitting world. Very thrilling!
Now I am off to watch Lord of the Rings and knit on my sock.

And so it begins...or continues

First I shall introduce myself to, probably, just myself. I just turned 28, I just celebrated my 6 year wedding anniversary, and I have just started this blog.

I have a two year old daughter, little bug as she shall be named here. She is very active and energetic. All day is a running commentary from her. My husband, or Mr. Gnome, is a Technical Director at a local theatre. Thus he is gone a lot of nights. When we were first dating I thought he looked like a gnome and was daring enough to tell him this. He took to it well and when we got married he started calling me Mrs. Gnome. Thus explains the names here. We have a cat, Saul and the least gnomish of the family weighing in at 17lbs. No, he is not overweight he is just BIG. He is also diabetic; don't get me started on the evils of diet cat food! I have been a vegetarian my entire life and knitting for just over a year.

Today is my daughter's 26th month day. That's 2-yrs and 2-mo. Unfortunatly the little bug seems to have caught a bug. After the park yesterday she started coughing like an old man and her voice is scratchy.

As far as the knitting goes I am working on a sweater for Mr. Gnome, a grocery shopping bag, and my first sock. You should know that I am Not one for having multiple projects! I don't even like reading more than one book at a time! I believe this stems from my parents never finishing a project; we didn't have front steps on our house for five years. OH, did I mention I have a B.S. in Psychology? You see the sock stays in the car for when little bug falls asleep and I don't want to wake her so I knit. The shopping bag is mindless knitting for reading knitting blogs, and the sweater is for good old fashioned TV and stress releaving knitting.

I finished this shawl last month and got to wear it to see Cirque Du Solei's Delirium for my birthday. Grand show and groovy shawl.
It's from Mason-Dixon Knitting knit with Paton's Grace. It was my first exprience using two colors on the same row and I learned that it is darn hard! I'm not sure how I feel about the Paton's Grace. It is so SOFT, I love mercerized cotton. But it was really slippery and the first few rows look a bit wonky.
As I said before little bug is sick and she has now woken up so I am off to snuggle her into wellnessville.
