Flower Fairy!

Naturally The Bug is being a Flower Fairy. Actually the idea was mine after I found fabric on sale that would make a wonderful fairy skirt. When I presented the idea to The Bug she was very excited.

The skirt is based on the tu-tutorial and modified for a fairy. Fairy modifications inculde a shorter skit, and bring shiney flower petals sewn on. None of her bags were flower fairy enough for trick-or-treating, or so said the expert on such things; The Bug. Luckily there was left over fabric from the petals that made a quick and easy bag.

To keep warm a flower fairy needs a lacey sweater in the color of her flower petals. This is some Katia Capri my mom gave me the first time she went to Spain over a year ago. The purple is left over something for something. The adorable button was in my button stash, a flower fairy can't have too many flowers. The pattern is Reid. After reading all the comments on Ravelry (whihc mostly just say size 2 is a size 4 and that size 4 is huge and 6 could fit and adult) I made the size 2 and as you can see it fits great and with the extra stretch of lace should fit her next year too. Research is a fabulous thing.

An interesting (or not) bit of Bug Halloween trivia: The brown shirt and leggings she is wearing in this costume are the same ones she wore last year.

Where has the time gone?

Sometimes it seems that the week just goes and I have no control over it. Usually I have nothing substantial to show for my lack of presence. Just the days getting away from me. Though this time I do have a bit of an excuse. I took the pictures for this post and didn't get around to getting them on the computer before the camera was whisked away to Las Vegas.
Naturally while the camera was away I finished two things. But those are for later. Now is for what should have been earlier.
An ex-balloon from you-know-where. Now I don't like balloons, well that's mild I'm rather scared of balloons. Odd, I know. Of course The Bug likes them and loves getting them from the want-to-be-health-food-store-but-really-more-of-a-novelty-food-store. This last time to keep her from flinging it about and doing all sorts of other dangerous balloony things I presented a project. We dip pieces of string into watery glue then wrap the balloon in said string. This meant the balloon had to stay in one place to dry and we didn't have to risk any dreaded balloon flingings. The next day Mr. Gnome took care of the dangerous deflating while I hid in another room. If he's willing to risk himself with the deflating of a balloon that is his business. This is what we got. Not too ballooney shaped but kind of neat. Is it art? Does balloon represent the deflation of our economy? Or is it the deflation of creative expression? Or.....is it just something the kid made so we hung it up..... ahhh the emotions it elicits...
And you can't have fall and a preschool aged child without making a leaf wreath. The Bug had fun picking up all the pretty fall leaves.

The Bug's Sweaters Keep Coming

If all goes well this will be a part of the Bug's Halloween costume. She's going to be a flower fairy of course! It's a cardigan that she can wear whenever it just so happens to match the colors of her costume.
We went to a different (not the place we like to go trying something new, the other place is way better) brunch at some hippie vegetarianish place in the more hippie part of the city. Like minded people should be nice to be around. But they are not. I don't, generally, like people who think like me. I find them pretentious. Maybe I am too. Growing up I thought knowing other non-meat-eaters (I don't even like to call myself a vegetarian) would be neat. But then I met some and it's not. I thought it would just be nice to have someone to eat with who wouldn't make a big deal about what I choose not to eat. I don't like "can't" eat since, I suppose, physically I can (I'd imagine I'd get sick afterwards but that would be after though maybe during too) I just don't choose to. Maybe it's that being vegetarian isn't a big deal to me and it is to these people. Or they are just so against things they can't be with anyone. Or maybe I just don't like humans. I don't know. I like being around people who knit. I like being around people who parent similarly. But people who eat similarly... it just always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Long......

The Evangeline fingerless arm warmers have been done for a while. I was only just able to tie down my photographer (the hubbo) this weekend. Fingerless gloves off the fingers just look like boring tubes. Jo Sharp Silkroad DK Tweed on size 5s. I did one less repeat for the hand, it was just going to fit better that way. I really like them and have worn them on a few morning walks when it was too cool for just a t-shirt but not so cool you need a jacket. Nice on those days when it's cool in the morning but will be warmer in just a few hours.

Little Bug

Yesterday morning the Bug did this puzzle by herself; for the second time. Puzzles are her new favorite thing and she really is good at them. I love that she loves puzzles. I have always wanted a puzzle table in my home, a place that had a constant puzzle in progress. While she certainly isn't there yet I can tell that it is in our future.

That afternoon Mr. Gnome wanted to paint the floor of the shed. He thought it would be fun to do a base coat then let the Bug pick a color and just have at it. She choose blue and had a grand time with the long handled roller. Mr. Gnome being more the artist enjoys this sort of thing. I thought it was a great idea.

Friday night we went to a dance performance at Mr. Gnome's work. The Bug loves going to these, the only trouble, as far as she's concerned, is that she doesn't get to dance. She's such a neat little person.

*shrug*

The other day I looked at the bug and realized how much bigger she's getting. Crazy! Then I looked at all the things I want to knit her that I have just the right amount of yarn for. I realized I needed to get knitting. So this past week...umm yes week.... I made her two...ummm yes two... shrugs.
First the plane black shrug. This is to go with a cute sleeveless dress of hers that probably won't fit her next summer. Now she can wear it through the fall. I used some acrylic something that was given to me by a friend who tried crochet, didn't like it and gave me her yarn. Simple top down raglan pattern.

Then the very fun red lace shrug; Hug Me. This was also simple, just a feather and fan lace work. But so cute and the ruffles on the end of the sleeve were just perfect Bug. This used almost two skeins of Tahki Cotton Classic.

Wow that kid has messy hair....

Both of these were very fast and very fun. The Bug likes them both but seems more drawn to the red one. We're going to see a dance performance at daddy's work this weekend and she wants to wear it to that.

There are at least two more sweaters I want to make her for this season. One Hopefully to go with her Halloween costume, but we'll see about that.
