Gray

Most people choose to do bright colorful knitting projects during the gray of winter and the early rainy days of spring. For some reason I'm doing all gray right now.

On my hand is a gray Knuck, in my hand is the gray German Stocking. No wonder I've been feeling so blah lately....

Gytha

Finally finished Gytha last night. What a fun sweater to knit. Simple, cute and just a touch of something. It's cozy and I like it.

Just in time for the weather to warm up too much to wear.

screw ups

My knitting life has been a series of screw ups lately, only some of which can be blamed on the monthly migraine.

First due to my inability to fully read the directions I knit an extra 2.5 inches on the German Stockings that needed to be then ripped back. Do you know how long it takes to knit 2.5 inches across 114 stitches on size 1.5 needles? I don't really want to think about it.
Then it took me three tries before I cast on the right number of stitches for a skirt for the Bug. This is also my inability to fully read directions and then be asked to do the math. It was beyond me for a time. I am intentionally not fully following the directions in hope of having fewer ends to weave in. You see the ends people has on Ravelry and it's almost enough to turn you off the pattern. But I have a plan; as long as I don't screw it up.

Peplum

-A short overskirt of ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress.
American Heritage Dictionary

I had never heard the word before this sweater.

Lovely picture with a shadow of Mr.Gnome's giant head. I think the sweater turned out great. It fits well, it is warm and soft and loverly. While I love the sweater and really did enjoy knitting it. The directions for the pattern were at times a touch confusing. I had to read a number of segments over again because they just didn't make sense the first few times. But other than that a fun and slightly challenging knit. The sweater is provisionally cast on then you knit up to the top then pick up that provision and knit the Peplum. The Peplum lovely arrows that are supposed to either indicate down or point out my butt, as if someone might miss it.

For the record Blogger spellcheck has never heard of peplum either.

Hair Cut

Monday The Bug was cutting out some pictures she'd been coloring. Later that day when we were reading stories I noticed she had bangs. She hadn't had bangs before. I asked her if she'd cut her hair. She told me it had been in her eyes. Which is probably true her hair is always in her eyes. It's hard to be upset with her when it's a rather cute cut. You may also notice the scrape on her chin. This is the result of trying to ride one's tricycle down the front steps to the house. Amazingly it's the only result of the fall.

March Socks

Done! For all who care they are toe up, short row heel with 1x1 ribbing on 1s. The Pattern was from More Sensational Knitted Socks, which I really like even more than her first book. The Stitch pattern is called Scrolls, but we are calling it flowing water. The yarn is Katia Caricia brought back from Spain by my mom.

They are my best fitting socks yet!

I have cast on for the April socks. I'm making Cookie A.'s German Stockings. This might actually be hard to get done by the end of April.

4

It's hard to believe that the Bug turned four yesterday. Wow.

We went to the Butterfly House yesterday for a special birthday treat. It was great fun. Four is looking like it will be full of fun and just a bit of frustration. Fun for both of us as she finds more things to do on her own and finds out more about who she is and what she likes. This can be frustrating for us both too but that is part of the growth. Her three biggest disappointments yesterday were that her party isn't until Friday, she couldn't suddenly read, and she is still just a tad too short to peddle her tricycle. Those last two she was certain would just magically happen when she turned four. It is great fun for me to see her blossoming into such a determined and independent child.

Watery socks

The first sock for March is done! This is from the ball that had been partially eaten. I wound off the broken outer layers of the ball. There were four little balls plus an almost normal size ball. I only had to use one of the smaller balls to get the sock done. The pattern is from More Sensational Knitted Socks, again borrowed from the library. In blue I like to think it looks like flowing water. Shockingly this my first pair of blue socks. I who always wear blue. I think I should be good to finish the second before the end of the month.

Tweedy goodness

Gytha is sitting on the side lines awaiting another ball of yarn.

So what to do?

Start another sweater of course!

This is Jo Sharp Silkroad. I had gotten this yarn last year during the LYS crawl. It was on sale and lovely! I didn't know what it would be. I just knew it had to be something that I could have against my body. But also needed to have decent drape; 10% silk you know. It also needed to be relatively simple so as to showcase the tweedy goodness. I found Tweed at the local library, have I said lately how much I love my library. The book is full of designs to show off the tweedy goodness. This pattern is for a different yarn that has the silk needs built in. Just a tad of drape. Elegant. The above is the finished back. On to do the front and oooh over how lovely this feels in my hands. Mr. Gnome has been home this week and the poor boy has to deal with me rubbing it on him.
