I've adapted it so I can knit the skirt in the round. So far a tail and a tiny bit of skirt.

Fishy
Since November 1st last year The Bug has wanted to be a Mermaid for next Halloween. She's been telling us and anyone else who will listen. I really thought she'd change her mind or get interested in something else before now. And still she wants to be a mermaid. Then I found a pattern for a knitted Mermaid Costume! I'm a little too excited about this but it's just so cool! The only pictures of the finished costume I could find are on Ravelry, so check that out if you can. The pattern is Splash from New Knits on the Block. This book has so many great knitted costume ideas.

Appley
We did our yearly apple picking last weekend.

Working my Pecks. haaa haaa haaa....
There are now ten jars of apple butter in our pantry. We had a miny apple butter party a friend came over with her two daughters and they played with the Bug while we made apple butter. Fun and yummy.
Stuffed apples with cherry sausage (Vegan Brunch) and buttermilk toast (Whole Grain Breads by Machine or Hand). I also made apple muffins, a dinner of apples, toast and sausage, and a bunch of dehydrated apples.

September Socks!
The September Socks are finished!
Oh what a time these socks have been! Half way through the right leg I realized that I'd cast on ten fewer stitches. I choose to just do less calf decreasing. I don't think it's at all noticeable. I was not up to ripping them out....again. I am pleased with the finished socks.
Now on to October's socks. Which are sadly grey as well. Need some color around here!

Stitch N Pitch
Monday was Sitch N Pitch. Mr Gnome came and we had a grand ole' time. Saw a real live home run; our team of course. And the Cardinals won!

I brought the back of my Sunrise Circle Jacket to knit on. We were sitting on the aisle and got to listen to all the people in the other section talk about how crazy it was to see all so many people knitting.
There was yarn and needle tossing to get rid of extra stuff. The venue people had to stop them after a while; what with the needle throwing.... The other sections wanted in on the yarn tossing. There are college age guys out there with black fun fur wondering what they should do with it. But then we all wonder what to do with fun fur.
My goodie bags.

Watermelon
This week I bought a big watermelon at the farmer's market.

Isn't that beautiful? So lovely and red. Tastes as good as it looks. I dehydrated some, which is as sweet as candy with such an intense watermelon taste. It really seems like the thing I have dehydrated have more flavor punch than stuff you buy at the store. But maybe I'm just biased.

The Bug and I made a pink smoothie yesterday. Watermelon, yogurt, banana and a dash of vanilla. So good and so pink.

Then there are the pickled watermelon rinds. Weird right? I read the recipe in a preserving the harvest book I got and thought, "weird". But then it wouldn't get out of my head. I kept thinking about it. So here it is. Haven't tried any yet; hope it tastes good.

Bagels!
My first batch of bagels...weird alien looking bagels.
I guess I should have kneaded them longer. Also think I would have been better off making ten instead of the recipes dozen. Live and learn. They are still so very yummy.

I also made The Garden Spread, a tofu-cashew-herby goodness. It made alot and may just be on a lot of sandwiches to come. No complaint here! Both recipes are from Vegan Brunch. Oh the yum!
Ok, I know, More food, what about the knitting. I don't really know. I've been knitting about the same. Nothing seems to be happening. I'm in some permanent state of knitting black hole. Where I knit and knit and nothing seems to happen.

Back to our irregular blogcast
I have the camera! It really is more fun to blog if you can see what in the world I'm talking about.
Finally a picture of the Sunrise Circle Jacket. Believe it or not that's the left front and sleeve. Kate Gilbert is such fun. I've also now done the right sleeve and have started in on the right front.
The first sock of September. Need to work on a better picture you really can't see the cables!
I did start and then start again my fall knit along sweater Sunday. I brought it home and finally started it for real, third time's the charm. Apparently I can't read a chart, a simple knit purl chart. Wow.
