Cascades

Cascata is finished.  Wow fast lace!  I could really knit this anywhere not too hard to follow.  But cool and I really like it.  It drapes nicely and isn't too big.
It's not as open looking as the original.  I never did check out my gauge.  Though I think I must be pretty close considering the size.  This yarn is a heavier lace weight; I think that's the deal.  It's a bit more everyday usable like this and works well as a scarf as I found out yesterday when it was randomly only in the 50s.
Pagewood Farms yarn bought a year ago during a yarn fume induced debacle.  I'd gone in to find sock yarn for sock madness.  It was a new store.  It was near the sock yarn.  Got it home started winding it.  Realized it was not sock yarn. One year later it has made a lovely shawl.
This is number three in the 12 Twists in 2012.  If  I'm crazy enough to keep count.

or is it a pastry?

At long last cookies from the latest Cookie A sock club!  Palmier.  Not something I'd usually make but OH are they tasty!  I used store bought puff pastry as I had half a box sitting in the freezer (mmmm freezer burn).  We got a recipe for making the actually dough.  Perhaps some time when I am feeling more ambitious.  I'm thinking with some lemon juice with the sugar.
In the background you can see the last of the Irises and a new lounge chair while I sat and worked on the second sock.  Turbulence is the name and aren't they lovely?  Am I knitting them because of the turbulence in our life or because I'm hoping for Turbulence?

Today I:

  • Sewed less than I'd hoped.
  • Cooked more than I'd planned
  • Read with and without the kid
  • Played with and without the kid
  • Finalized plans
  • Finished a Sock
Not a bad start to the week.

Back On

When knitting disasters strike one must get right back on the needles. Preferably with something relatively simple.  Even better if it's a bit quick.
This is Cascata.  A lovely yet simple stole.

It's playing nicely with this lightly variegated yarn.
I think it'll be done tomorrow.  I hope it will be lovely.

The Madness: Rnd 3

Round 3 is done for me. (hee hee rhymes) These socks were finished in just minutes over 36hrs from their release. A new personal record!
It's such a cute pattern too! Different sized leaves messing with the pooling of the yarn. And the craziest thing is I knit them on size 1.5US! I can't remember the last time I knit a pair of socks on something so big. This means the fabric is a bit looser than I prefer my socks. Little worried about their longevity but we'll see.

When it's not

OH Dahlia. I had such hopes for you. You are so pretty with your lacy back and you neat construction. All trendy with the floppy front. But oh my lovely you are not a sweater for me to wear. You are lovely but you just don't seem to want to stay put on my shoulders. I need that in a sweater, the reliability to stay on me when I need you most. But you are just so pretty and floppy you want to do your own thing. And that thins just isn't working for me.
It has taken me months to make you all the while I was so excited to wear you. I looked forward to the day. Hoped for a cool snap so I'd still be able to wear you when I finished you in spring. But we were just not a match meant to be.
To the yarn I will use you again. I have plans. You will not be abandoned. But sweater, I bid you a sweet and regretful farewell.

Excitement!

And It's not just about socks!
The Optional Round for Sock Madness started Wednesday. Optional, Bah, You know I'm knitting away on it!
It will have buttons and has a mock steek and zipper. Bit of a joke you see we always get ourselves in a tizzy wondering what craziness will be thrown our way. It's a neat pattern and I'm enjoying it. What I'm enjoying a sock? Crazy I know.
Then today I got the Cookie A. Sock Club Yarn. Lovely! Give me a shade of blue and I'm all over it!
And behind that lovely bit of yarn? That is just the result of thinning Half of the lettuce. Half! I still have two rows to go through! The last few years have been horrible for lettuce. I'd plant it, the squirrels would get all excited because someone else was digging so they'd dig it up. And keep digging and digging for weeks leaving no chance for the poor little seedlings to get started. This year I put cages over where I planted. Ha get at them now squirrelies! I had a lovely salad for dinner. The Bug was eating them right out of the bowl as I was pulling, before I even washed them.
See not all excitement revolves around socks.....just most.

Sevillano

The January KAL Shawl is done....It's April...ah well. Lots of other things have happened. Not to mention it's bloody Huge! It just kept going and going and going. Wow. I do like it a lot though. It's bit big but not in a way that I don't feel comfortable wearing it like some of my other big shawls.
It has nice shoulder shaping to keep it on. So nice. And that meshy stuff while tedious as anything hugs so nice. The yarn is some no name alpaca I got at Maryland Sheep and Wool back in 2010. So it's also soft and warm.

The Tenth

Ah the tenth and final short sock for summer use is complete! Wee bit of yellow going into lots of green from this sock. Now you know what this means! Hexipuffs! I bought the pattern today and went through all of the different charts for all sorts of cute and geeky hexipuffs. This might involve a spreadsheet; I'm not admitting to anything. Oh gosh am I excited!

Frickin'

Re-finished Frick. Now it fits! However, I did have to take them off immediately today. It is crazy hot! 90 some degrees out there. ugh. See the pretty flower Mr. Gnome got me? I know just where I'm going to plant it.
